History of the Coral Gables Group
of Alcoholics Anonymous

The Coral Gables Group of Alcoholics Anonymous, better known by members as the Coral Room, was founded in1947 by a few alcoholics in the area who wanted to get sober. That first location was on Minorca Avenue, a storefront with chairs lining the walls, a coffee bar, and a nicotine-stained board with the Twelve Steps written on it. Newcomers were greeted by a large “YOU ARE NOT ALONE” sign as encouragement that there is hope when we do this together.
The Coral Room next moved to LeJeune Road, where the 7:30 and 5:30 rush-hour meetings began, and then finally to its last location on Ponce De Leon Boulevard. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, we closed the physical location and took all meetings online.
As the world at large gradually returned to normal operations, so too did the Coral Room. The Coral Room once again has a physical clubhouse back on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, and we currently host AA meetings both online and in-person, 7 days a week, from morning until night.
You can find a complete list of meetings on our meeting schedule.
The Coral Room has an important role in South Florida Alcoholics Anonymous and recovery from Alcoholism, and we welcome anyone who has a desire to stop drinking.
No matter the challenge, the group always pulls together and, with the help of a Higher Power, sustains itself and grows stronger. We are the Coral Room: Strong, Sober, and Free.
